Cafe Adam, owned by the internationally-trained chef and Berkshire native Adam Zieminski, delivers. It bills itself as a brasserie. In addition to the good value that implies, the menu has plenty of impeccably-executed brasserie standards, such as boeuf Bourguignon, cassoulet, bouillabaisse Marseilles (at $22 their most popular dish, according to our genial waitress), and steak frites. Even the low-key-yet-skillful interior design nods to brasserie tradition, with firsts, wines and desserts scrawled on tall rectangles of chalkboard painted directly onto the walls. The management also justifiably claims a stake in New American Cuisine. There is a spirit of experimentation you’ll never find in a Paris brasserie, and what comes out of the kitchen is locally raised and grown “as much as possible,” with special effort invested in obtaining fresh fish. One appetizer of deep-fried Spanish onion with a yogurt-turmeric sauce was shared by five people and got ten thumbs up. The steak is offered at four price points, ranging from a $15 hache to a $28 tenderloin. We opted for the $19 hanger and were patting ourselves on the back. The profiteroles were perfect and, as promised, the crème brûlée was “just like Julia Child’s.”

Just back from a weekend in the Berkshires. Had a brunch and dinner at Cafe Adam.It has to be the best kept secret in the area. While people we knew were waiting on line and being seated elbow to elbow in some of the better known places on a Saturday night we dined in a sleekly contemporary new place with widely spaced tables and leisurely friendly service. The chef-owner is a culinary school graduate who presents an eclectic menu which changes weekly. The ingredients are mostly ,if not entirely selected from local suppliers. At brunch we had Buckwheat Crepes with Fresh Fruit and I believe a Mango Puree Sauce. Some of our dinner selections were Mussels in a Wine and Cream sauce, Rare Ahi Tuna with Rice Noodles and Kale We also had an Arugala , Goat Cheese and White Peach Salad. Although not inexpensive I felt the prices were in line with the other fine restaurants in the area.

Attempting to get a reservation at an upscale Berkshire restaurant on a Saturday evening in July is tougher than getting an audience with the Queen of England ... especially when your attempt is made that same Saturday afternoon.
Cafe Adam is the exception that proves the rule: when, at 4 on a Saturday afternoon last month, we called to inquire about a 7:30 reservation for two, we were pleasantly surprised to be accommodated.
This gem of a restaurant, located just a few miles from the heart of downtown Great Barrington at 325 Stockbridge Road (with that rarity of rarities in South County: ample parking), serves up some of the most innovative and delectable cuisine in the Berkshires.
Many restaurants have opened in the Great Barrington area over the last 15 years, some of which were initially good, then not, then gone. Cafe Adam, a relatively new kid on the block, is very special and deserves a permanent place on the Berkshire gustatory map. Fresh locally grown produce, clever but not annoying tweaks to classics (the bouilabaise should not be missed) and a very fine and reasonably priced wine list. Absolutely my favorite.

Great brunch at Cafe Adam!
My first visit to the renovated space of Cafe Adam. Very interesting menu, with lots of healthy choices. I had avocado and smoked salmon on toasted herb bread with side of salad and my husband had runny egg panini. Both were excellent, as was the cappuccino! Nice to find a great new eatery in GB.

A total surprise--the food was deftly and expertly prepared; a good grounding in the basics with enough innovations to bring us back every day of last year's visit. The atmosphere was professional, warm, and welcoming. We'll be back!

Fresh Innovative and Delicious! Cafe Adam is a wonderful place to enjoy a meal. The menu is as diverse as it is delicious and has something to suit everyone's palate. My husband and I went back at least once a day (for either breakfast, lunch or dinner) during our stay in the Berkshire's. Cafe Adam is a great find not only for the brilliant menu but for the laid back ambiance. We will most certainly make it a part of our next visit!
